Help...gonna be a vet tech...but afraid to clip nails???

Okay, I am a little worried. I am just finishing up my first semester of vet tech classes. I have been practicing things like temp, pulse, and resp. on my own pets. (I have four dogs). I am a complete animal lover and I have even given my own dogs rabies vacc. and microchips (someone at our local shelter taught me, I volunteer alot). I did these things with no problem. However, about 6 months ago I clipped my lab/great dane's nails and cut too deep. I had to use the powder to make it stop bleeding and he seems much more sensitive now when I go to clip his nails. Every time I try now, it is like I was traumatized from that experience and I can't go through with cutting any of the animals nails. Is there an easy way to get over clipping dogs nails, do you think I would do okay with other animals, not my own ( I have no children, my dogs are my children).

I just keep thinking that I am gonna be a horrible tech if I cannot even clip my own dogs nails.Help...gonna be a vet tech...but afraid to clip nails???
I did the same thing to my poor old German Shepherd dog... and he was always scared of having his nails clipped after that. What I would do is just clip one or two, let him take a breather and then clip another couple of nails.

He got used to it after a while and realized I wasn't going to hurt him.

Just be careful how deep you clip and you'll do just fine. And with the other skills you have- implanting chips and giving shots- even if you can't bring yourself to clip nails you'll still be a great tech who can perform a lot of valuable services for the animals.Help...gonna be a vet tech...but afraid to clip nails???
First off, try not to send out your nervous energy to the dog when you want to clip them again. Dogs sense fear in an instant.--Ever watch the dog whisperer? Ceaser always says that.

Second try looking at the nail carefully. Try to look at the pink';meat'; part and cut far enough away from that but close enough to cut a small portion of the nail off. Whatever you do, don't cut the pink again. That's the nail bed. Make sure your nail cutters are sharp and not dull. Talk around ,to your Professor/teacher @ vet school. Maybe even talk with your own vet. Maybe have them show you exactly how.

Good luck!
Sometimes when its our own dogs or pets we become a little more nervous, but the only way to recover is to just go back to your confidence and just do it. even professionals make mistakes.

Ive learned how to give my dog sub-q fluids and i was afraid too. but know its second nature to me and i also help other pet owners give sub-q. believe me you can recover from this, you can do this
Well, if the dog has light colored nails you shouldn't have a problem. You can clearly see where the quick starts when they are light/clear. For the darker nails just clip off the very ends so that you don't cut deep, but they are not sharp anymore. I think you will do just fine. They will also eventually teach you how to do it properly. Whatever vet you work with will probably also show you.
Hey . Relax most dogs flip out about getting a nail trim.I a tech and it takes two people to trim most dogs nails. Just remember to snip a little at a time - black nails suck -it takes practice.
I think part of your dog's current sensitivity is that he is picking up on your nervousness. Take a deep breath before you start and remind yourself that though cutting to deep will hurt, it won't kill him. Then check for the pink, and take a little off at a time staying below the pink. If your dog has black nails, you just have to learn where to stop, with time you will figure it out, the reason we go to school is to learn, and you can't get good at something without practicing. The obvious care you show for your pet's pain makes me think you will be a great tech. Good luck. :-)
OK make sure u do not cut the nail to close to the pink part of the nail only cut on the White if u cut to close to the pink it will bleed of the dog tries to bite you put a towel over his head
You need to be careful when cutting their nails that you dont cut into the quick as you have previously. Your dog is a little wary as he was hurt last time and doesnt want to repeat the incident. One way to help him get over it is to provide him some kind of treat with the nail cutting. My dogs go bonkers when I tell them its time for grooming because they anticipate goodies. Hang in there. youll get it.
Just do the tips. I too don't like clipping dog's nails so I now use a dremel file, much better. Also it is easier working on animals that are not yours. I'm sure you'll be great. All the best;~}

I went to a nail salon asked the tech if she could use a callus blade?

she explained it was illegal, because of infections.

What confuses me is that I know someone that just got a tattoo in thier mouth and that is legal.

I know It's two totally different cases .But it seems tattoos in the mouth would be worst. How does the health department determine what can be legal or not ,(when it was legal)The nail tech used brand new blades never touched by anyone eles, but yet tattoo tools are used on many clients you just hope that they are sterlized. Also the mouth is very dirty lots of germs .Seems like a tattoo would be high prone to infection.I went to a nail salon asked the tech if she could use a callus blade?
Actually tattooing is much safer than nail salons simply because of sterile equipment. Nail salons aren't as stringent with the decontamination and they often use the same tools on multiple people. I have never had a tattoo where the artist used non-sterile equipment. It is a known fact that callous blades promote infection. Any time you have any sort of cuts on your feet, you are more likely to get an infection after leaving the salon. There are enzymes in your mouth that promote healing and make it less likely to cause infection. What you need to do is go get a product called a ';pedi egg'; and use it yourself. You may have seen it on TV, but you can buy them at Bed Bath %26amp; Beyond. They work much better than a callous balde and are much safer.I went to a nail salon asked the tech if she could use a callus blade?
I dont know where you went, but I get pedicures once a week and they use a callace blade every single time. It is not illegal at least in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Florida. I travel back and forth from all these states all the time so I know that for a fact. THe salon could be doing that for their own personal safety incase someone would try to do that.
Tattoo shops in most states are held to Health Department codes and policies on cleaning and sterilization. Nail salons are not. My guess would be that the callus blade is not ';illegal'; just against policy at that shop.
Tattoo needles are disposable.
Being a nail tech. i can tell you that it is illegal in some states, but not all. It is mainly illegal because it is honestly real easy to cut to much and then the client will bleed, so that leaves us with 2 situations.

1. People usually get pedicures in the summer where they wear open shoes, or in warm climates. If there is small cuts on the feet, it is very easy for infection to occur. Think about it your feet are closest to the ground, were there is a lot of germs and bacteria.

2. The client will bleed all into the pedicure chair wich is unsanitary, especailly at the corner nails salons with the asian women instead of a salon. Yes, both places do clean the inside of the tub out, but they do NOT!! flush out the pipes. This means to fill up the tub and let it drain to clean out the pipes with the water from the last client. Without doing that what happens is that when they turn on the jets the water comes in from the pipes which was the past clients water which could have blood from scraping, and is now in your bath.

Does anyone know a tech school for nails near UCF (University of Central Florida)?

I'm looking for a school near my universityDoes anyone know a tech school for nails near UCF (University of Central Florida)?
Most Cosmetology Schools have a Nail Course. Here's a list of Schools in Florida that have the tech course. http://www.beautyschoolsdirectory.com/fi鈥?/a>

Why is it when you are getting your nails done, the tech wears a mask but they never offer the client one?

Just wondering, we are breathing in the same fumes...Why is it when you are getting your nails done, the tech wears a mask but they never offer the client one?
well the person who does your nails breathes in the fumes for longer than you. you breathing in the small amount of fumes each time you get your nails done isn't a big deal, but the nail artists breath the fumes in all day everyday and that kind of exposure is harmful...hence why they wear the masks and you don't...i hope this makes sense :)Why is it when you are getting your nails done, the tech wears a mask but they never offer the client one?
no problem...i personally can't stand the smell whenever i go, so i will probably ask for the mask next time too! :)

maybe they are super hero wanna bees! or maybe just rude!
Good question! Maybe it is so they dont get any nail stuff in their mouth... LOL... I will ask next time!!
it depends on who you get your nails done bye if you get them done Chinese people i am not racist but an y ways they have chemical in the powder that can harm your lung if you want a mask you can ask them and they will give you one
I think its because they are breathing on your nails with all that bacteria and stuff and your not breathing on their nails with that bacteria so their for you dont need one.......
More exposure, Need mask.

The powders, fumes and germs would make a person sick. The mask could be the same as at a dentists office. Germs!
But they are breathing the fumes ALL DAY, and you are just there for an hour.
A good question for your tech. Also ask for a mask for yourself.
i really dont know they just dont think
it is for 'your' protection as it was explained to me. They get so close to you and your nail beds that you don't want to get anything they might have.
i been thinking the same thing

Nail technicians are nit M.D.'s. Thus, we are not allowed - by law, to cut living tissue. This includes the use of a 'credo' blade. This is illegal to do in most states. Some of the cheapo salons will do it for you, but not a reputable salon. A tech could lose her license for doing something like this. Let's put it this way. You don't go to a doctor and ask him/her to do something illegal, do you? I didn't think so So, the same applies here. If it's illegal, then it should not be done. Whether you want them to do it or not is irrelevant. Just my opinion...I went to a nail salon asked the tech if she could use a callus blade?
the reason is that with a blade (callous remover) you can potentially take off to much skin and that could cause major problems. i have seen it happen. you can actually buy them at the store and do it yourself or get a foot file and use it daily maybe twice daily and that would help a lot. depending on the work you do the callous might be there for a reason though.
Getting a tattoo does not require cutting skin. when you cut skin it is considered ';surgery'; this makes it illegal for nail techs to cut the callous off your feet. As much as i loved it, it makes sense not to have a non surgeon cutting skin off my feet.

Do nail technician make good money I was thinking of getting trained up to become a mobile tech? thanks?

you can get about 拢30 for everyone you do.Do nail technician make good money I was thinking of getting trained up to become a mobile tech? thanks?
Nah, I've had two friends who went for school to do that, they don't make enough. In fact, one of them doesn't do it anymore and the other just does hair now. You have to be very lucky to land a spot in a good salon that has a good reputation. It's not something people make a good living on. I mean, you never hear about it as a good paying gig right? Don't forget you gotta pay booth rent, and buy equipment.....Do nail technician make good money I was thinking of getting trained up to become a mobile tech? thanks?
hi i am a qualified therapist and i do not think you do make much money out of it. It would be ok as a part time job to earn money along side another job but the costs of materials for false nails are high. If you was thinkin of doing a nail tech course i would highly recommend Alan Roy nail school if there is one near you as you can be trained in a week an intensive course and it is alot cheaper than going to college. I paid to do it at college and it cost a fortune and took months i then done the same course at alan roy to refresh myself and it was the same

    hope this helps
Nail techs only make good money if they can work in a high-end salon with a large client猫le. After graduating any sort of cosmetology type school, you're basically making like $6.00/hr until your 5th year in the industry.

And, it's against the law to be a mobile tech. How do I know? I posted an ad on Craigslist for a mobile nail tech and got bombarded with emails saying that I was breaking the law requesting for a mobile nail tech, and the nail tech them self would be as well. But, if you want to try it out, do it! I wanted to do it, but I was told that being a nail tech usually means that you hardly ever get your own nails done, that did it for me. No more nail tech dreams. :-D

When removing acrylic nails with tech Acetone does it have to be dluted with water and if so, what proportion?

nope...no diluting the acetone. just use 100% pure acetone. It doesnt burn or sting, the only thing I notice when I do it on clients is that they say its really cold.

just make sure not to spill it on any wood or plastic table clothes because it will damage them.

    Thanks,

    Use pure acetone, no water.

Nail & hair tech or medical assisting which makes more money?

Nail techs can make good money ($18 - $40 hr or more), but depending on the area and salon it takes time to build a clientelle. Medical assistants can start out making OK money, and its guaranteed, plus you can get benefits. Its hard for those of us in the salon industry to find a salon that offers health benefits since most of the time you are considered an independant contractor.

If you want more info on the salon biz, go to beautytech.com and talk to the girls on the message board. They can tell you all you need to know.

Whatever you choose, do what you love. Money will never buy you happiness.Nail %26amp; hair tech or medical assisting which makes more money?
personally, go with what you love to do more... not only the money. I am a makeup artist and absolutely love my job. I am not known in hollywood just yet but when I get there I know I will be making big money so if you have skills in hair and nails go for it! when you do get big in hollywood be prepared for loooong hours traveling, and sometimes no work for months! (unless your on a high budget movie for a year or so) but if you want to go into a medicinal field because you like research, helping others, etc. go for that!Nail %26amp; hair tech or medical assisting which makes more money?
based on my friends info...med assist don't make that much over mim. wage..of course it depends on the area you live in.. a good nail tech can make $200- $400 a day if they are quick and again depending on the area.
Nail %26amp; Hair be something you may be able to have your own business one day. So, the future prospects of making money may be better over time.
I know that medical assistants in a DR. office start off at approx 13.00 an hour in Ohio.

Wondering what type of nails my mom has (fake/artificial) if she says her tech puts nail polish on them?

she doesnt have fake tips or nails, but whatever that lady puts on it, makes them really thick and sturdy...so. what kind does she have...also...she doesnt know..so thats y im askinWondering what type of nails my mom has (fake/artificial) if she says her tech puts nail polish on them?
Sounds like acrylics...Does the girl use a brush, that looks like a painting brush? If she does, It's acrylics.

What do you look for in a professional Nail Tech?

I've been a nail tech for 19 yrs and I've on a short leave of absense the past 3. Since then things have changed, the market has changed. I'm doing a little research/survey on what clients are looking for when it comes to getting thier nails done either manicures or applications. Also for pedicures to. Are you looking for the in and out attitude, warm and personalble, someone you can talk to, or just do my nail and get me the heck outta her girl. There are so many discount salons around who seem to not want or unable to communicate with their clientele or care about great customer service and pampering as well as excellent sanitation. Let me know what you like or dislike. IT will help me in my new marketing. I'm thinking of becoming a mobile tech doing in home services and parties instead of sitting around in a salon and paying half my commission to an owner of the company. Also it would help to what you pay for full sets, fills, pedicures. Thanks and Blessings to you! I SHOULD ALSO ADD I LIVE IN MICHIGAN.What do you look for in a professional Nail Tech?
just nice, talkative... able to speak english very well...

with alot of asian nail techs, ive just had bad experiances with the ones who live nearby, they cant speak english very well, (i asked for a plain french manicure and walked out with red nails with a deign) i didnt mind much i actually liked it so i didnt ask her to fix it but.. you get the point.

How do you know if the nail tech is also not doing a good job?

I was going to this place by my house for a while but I read that the way they do the nails aren't good for you. I wanted to know what I should look for and what I should look to as an alternative salon.

The place I go to now is run by mostly avian people and I'm worried about the tools they are using (being clean or not) and it's usually only like $20.

I have been to a salon to get them done before but they don't last as long and are more expensive than the $20 salon. How do you know if the nail tech is also not doing a good job?
If they are running the drill on your cuticle causing you it to sting/burn or even bleed, that is not good. Also, if you ever get a green tint under your nails after a while that means they are not sealing them up very well and they are getting moisture underneath and they are literally growing a fungus (take them off if this happens). Another thing is if they break or lift off sooner than they should. A good set of nails should last all the way between fills and not lift.

I have been getting my nails done for 8 straight years and I have had some really good jobs and some really bad. Try different places until you find a tech who you like and makes the nails look great and last all the way between fills.

I finally found a salon that advertises how good their sanitation standards are and they even have a little box in the back with your name and customer number on it that has a nail file, etc in it that they only use on you. You might look around your area for something like this.

You kind of get what you pay for so if you want a really good job you might have to spend more than $20. I spend $35 on a full set of solar nails and $27 for a solar fill every 3 weeks. (Solar nails are a bit more than arcylic nails but they are prettier and stronger.)

    Hope I helped =)

Nail Technician - the in's & out's please help! (maybe a qualified or training Nail tech can help Uk?)?

Hello Ill try to keep this a brief as I can but have lots to ask! Iv been doing nails (painting, shaping, decorating simple stuff but not falseees) for my friends and family for about 5yrs (as a unprofessional hobbi ) and im now thinking nows the time to get qualified! as it will be a hobbie that i love but can earn at the same time!

Iv looked into a few courses all costing from 拢170-拢1500 all offering different certificates (diplomas, VTCT, NFCE etc) Iv looked at colleges and home learning but cant find which one would be best! (college coz u get more pratical, home as its cheaper)

Im not very self confident (sure i can make a friend in a crowded room, but personal development confidence i dont have) So your help could make me part with my money (loan! lol) so your help would be sooooo helpful!lol

I have a few questions (please responce either u were college or home schooled) here goes!

    1) Are the assessments/essays/course work/ pratical hard?

    2) can you give me examples of the kind of format course could be laid out? (time lines subjects etc)

3)Are there any exams? (if so are they too hard?)

4)What types of things do you think I could do to make me prepare myself for what is expected of me?

5)if home studing...does any one know of places that will offer placements (eg Iv heard of a place called Capital in Ashford, kent that did a course on nail art...this is not a town salon)

    6) do you have any otehr advise you think would help me, if so please tell me as u know the facts!

Sorry to have waffled on but as you can tell I dont want to go head first into this, Im 24yrs old and been out of sch since i was 17! so im abit scared to throw myself into it without being prepared! I'm getting my nails done tomorrow. I want the nail extensions. Where they do the white tips? And they use gel or something? What will I have to ask for when I'm at the salon?

I have long nails, however they are all discoloured, and horrible shapes. also 5 of them have broken off, so I can't just have a french manicure, as they will look odd.

They will do it all for you and it won't cost anything extra. It only costs extra if you already have your nails done and they take them down for you if they are too long. Did not tip the nail tech today... Feeling remorse?

I live around Houston where the average refill for ';pink %26amp; white'; refill is $25. Tried a new salon today, average appearance, etc. When finishing up my nails the tech cut 3 of my cuticles with the block filing thing. I kept jerking my hand back and she kept filing away. 3 bloody cuticles and not even an apology... Then the total was $35, which was my fault bc I did not even ask the price when I sat in the chair...

Would you have left a tip? Only thing is she did a good job on my nails and it is close to my work.. Just want some JMO's.

    Thanks

KJDid not tip the nail tech today... Feeling remorse?
I definitely wouldn't have left a tip. Did you forget to tip her last time? Maybe that's why she was so rough ;)

But yeah, don't feel bad for it. She got paid for what she does, and you shouldn't feel obligated to leave a tip.Did not tip the nail tech today... Feeling remorse?
you shouldnt have even paid...you can get an infection bc it is open sores and then she used chemicals....they may have ';tried'; to fourse u to pay by threats...but what are they gonna do really? all you have to do is show whoever they would have called....i wouldnt have paid or tipped.....thats just me though.....and when they asked why id show them and say this is what ur nail tech did...she cut me and expects me to pay...for what? a crap job.
    I wouldn't have tipped and I wouldn't go back.
I can say I honestly would not of and then let her know why.

What it takes to be really good, huh? The short answer is years of total dedication and practice, lots of training, more classes, more practice, and even more practice on top of that! It is NOT easy. It looks like doing nails is easy work, but it is not. There are some facts that you must be willing to face if you decide to go into this profession. First of which is this. You need to go to an approved nail training program, and put in your hours there. Each state has a minimum requirement of hours that you need before you can take your state's licensing exams. Without a license, you don't go anywhere. In other words - no job without a license. Period. No exceptions.

Once you get out of school, you will need to start at the very bottom of the food chain, so to speak. Clients will NOT come running to you simply because you have a salon. It takes a lot of time to build up your 'book.' You will spend a LOT of time with absolutely no customers because you will not have very many when you start out. You have to build them. The way to do that is to promote yourself by doing top quality work - every time, maintain a professional attitude even in the face of the nastiest customers - and believe me, some can get pretty nasty at times. You have to always work on improving your skills, and becoming a better nail technician. The real money in this business goes to those who are highly skilled, and do GREAT work. They build a reputation over time, and slowly the customers start to come. The industry is filled with people who get out of school, and think that they can just start right out without 'paying their dues,' only to have a big shock coming to them when they realize the reality of the situation. And that is the nail business takes dedication, long hours, and perserverance - if you want to go anywhere, that is.

One other thing. The nail business is NOT a 9-5, Monday-Friday job. Not even close, actually. Sure, you can work those hours, but you won't have many customers. To make it, you NEED to be available when women who get their nails done are available. That means working nights, weekends, and some holidays too because that is when most people have time off and can do this sort of thing. Thus, you have to work around their schedule. They do not work around your schedule. It just doesn't work that way.

But don't let anything I said discourage you from going into the nail industry. Just go into it with the knowledge that it takes time to become skilled at doing nails. It takes time too bring in clients. And it takes time to be able to go out on your own. I would never suggest that anyone try to go into business for themselves without first paying their dues by working for someone else. This is how you get the necessary experience.

I have been doing nails for many years now. I LOVE my job, and would not trade it for anything else. But, it took time to get to where I am now. Everyone has to pay their dues in this business. That is just how it is. And that is a fact.

Look, I don't know how well I answered your question, but it is late here right now, and I had a LONG day today. Thus I am tired, and I might not be giving you the best information. I'll check back tomorrow to see if you added any comments/questions, and go from there, OK? But, I hope I at least helped a little bit.

Either way, best of luck to you, and dont ever give up hope. You can do it if you really want to do it. You have to make it happen because it will not happen for you. You must create your own success, or failure...

*I posted this question before but all I got were answers like ';those nails look trashy, just ask for hooker nails, blah, blah.'; FYI, I'm not looking for the exact DESIGN so stfu. I just wanna get a general idea about professional nails cuz I don't know anything. Thanks so much, u guys! What should I ask the nail tech if I wanted these kinds of nails? (pics)?
When you walk in say you want a full set they'll know what that is and you should bring along the picture of the nails you want. You can get a french manicure with fake nails which is white tips on the nail tip. The color of the tips is just a design any design you want. You can also get acrylic or gel nails. Acrylic nails use more chemicals and are cheaper and gel nails are supposedly better for your real nails because they use less chemicals these are also shinier and they ';cure'; them with UV light. What should I ask the nail tech if I wanted these kinds of nails? (pics)?
A full set is all 10 fingernails. The second pic is a french manicure with decals. There are different types of nails they can do such as acrylic, fiberglass, gel, and so on, but the best way to choose which is to just ask the nail tech. Each one has it's pros and cons and some are harder on the natural nails than others. Just ask, most nail techs are more than happy to answer your questions and guide you to what would work and look best for you.
For the second one you can say ';I would like a full set about this length *show nail to person and point out how long you want it* with purple sparkle tips with nail art*Ask to see what kind of stick on stuff they have and choose what you want*.

For the second one just ask for a full set french manicure with the design. 1 heart, 2 rhinestones.

    Hope this helped
These nails are gel nails. Ask them you want acrylic nails. They will ask if you you want the white (bottom one) or the colored nails (top one). They are the same price. If you want colored nails, they will ask you to pick a nail color. If you want the jewels or the designs on them you have to pay extra. You can place the jewels where you want them.
yeah ask for french tips, they will color the white part any color you choose with an airbrush so it will look cool, then they will super glue jewels. less is better though so stick to something light and pretty, just a few jewels here and there and white tips always look better. and beware, the longer the nails, the easier they will break and it will be super uncomfortable for you.
I actually like the second picture. Just ask him or her for a regular full set and whatever things they have to put on the nail like rhinestones or hearts, just tell him or her how u want it and how u would like them to go.

Or just print out both of the picture and take them to the shop. They`ll get a really good idea how you would like them.
You should look at like the gyaru(?) Nails! They have soo much.

But umm maybe like acrylic french tip, or if u have long nails a silk wrap? And ask them what kind of designs and stickon stuff they have
I like the second one more. YEAH, the best thing to do is print it out and tae it to them.
Well, you could print out the picture and ask them to do that.

They'll do it. I've done it before.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!! those nails are so totally cute!!!!!!!!!! they definately say ur a star!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!! so i like once read in cosmo gurl that a gurls best friend are like her nails!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    princess says hi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

why that's like my poodle silly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bring a picture to the nail tech!!
just print out a picture of those nails and show it to them
OH MY GOSH HOW PRETTY!!!! GIRL IF YOU WERE MY FRIEND I WOULD HOOK YOU UP CUZ MY BOYFRIEND MOM DOES NAILS=))))))

Nail Techs in Oregon PLZ Help! What is a good Nail Tech school in Oregon? Around Salem area?

I've been doin some research because i'm ready to go back to school and i'm moving to oregon in two weeks.. I found a few schools in Portland but thats a 40 minute drive from where i will be living(in the salem area).. I was on this website and i don't know if its a school but it was College of Hair Design Careers they didn't provide much information.. So i called and nobody was there to help me.. Also would it be better for me to take courses that are 600 hours or 350?Nail Techs in Oregon PLZ Help! What is a good Nail Tech school in Oregon? Around Salem area?
Honestly, No one can tell you what school is better. The instructors in every school are different, and all teach different ways. Yes, the College of hair design is a School(I just looked at the website.). I'm not entirely sure where you go the 350 hours, But the oregon state hours for Nail techs are 600 hours.

acrylic and liquid. They supply everything else like for manicures and pedicures and polish. Is this a good deal? The salon wanted to give me $8.00 an hour but I asked for commission instead. In the past 3 weeks that I have worked I have made less than $200 total. Did I make a mistake asking for commission? Would it be an inconvenience for me to ask the owner for hourly for a few months until business picks up? What would you do?I am a Nail Tech starting out to build my clientele. My salon is paying me 50% commission and I supply my?
Definitely salary first, then commission. You need a clientele to work only based off of commision. Being someone who was taking Esthetics, and a current Makeup Artist, I know how difficult it is to start out in this business.

Minimum wage here is $8.00 so it doesn't seem a lot to me, especially for someone who is certified, however depends on where you live. You can sit down and discuss it with the owner, just tell them you misjudged it, and find it would be easier right now to work from a salary base, rather then commission. Once you do get a good clientele going and establish that, you can switch back over to commission, where you can make a mint doing Nail Tech.

Good luck with your career!I am a Nail Tech starting out to build my clientele. My salon is paying me 50% commission and I supply my?
you should be making salery plus commission and your best bet is going to be booth rental that way you pay a flat rate to shop and the rest is yours to keep, you also get to name your days and time you work, this really the only way to go but for now commissiom is good until you build a clientel good luck on your new adventure

Did my new nail tech over charge me?

I went to the nail salon on Saturday. I got a polish change on my acrylic nails and a polish change on my toes. On my nails and toes I got the same design, which was all red nails with a black tip and silver line below the black tip. Mind you I did not get a rebase or pedicure. Just a polish change. Then I got an eyebrow wax. My nail techs granddaughter told me it would b $35. When I went to pay her, she said it would b $36. I didn't complain or ask too much, but I do feel I was overcharged. My nail tech is nice and everything, and I like the quality of the work she does but I feel ripped off. What is your opinion? Should I go back to one of the two of my old shops or stay at the current one I went to on Saturday?Did my new nail tech over charge me?
R u crying over a dollar?? U knew it would be around 35Did my new nail tech over charge me?
if you went to a nail tech, and you payed money, yes you were over charged..
Umm, it's a Dollar. Get over it!
Well i would have to say stay with it .. if you liked the service you got then it would be unfair to the nail tech. And besides it was only one dollar difference.. and you obviously left the other shops for a reason as well..
NO! dont be a cheep person, my nails cost $125 for a new set and $80 for fills. but theyre silk gel nails, you probably have the cheep kind. but even then, they didnt over charge you.

    Questions for a nail tech?

Ok, so i just started doing my nails at home to save money. They look pretty good,(i bought professional products instead of just an at-home acrylic kit) but the bases around the cuticle always come out uneven it looks bad when i paint them like i have paint on my cuticle or something (if that made sense)...how do i get them even so they will look good...also, how do i stop or slow the lifting process? they always start to lift after about two or three days...i use primer and bond-aid, what am i doing wrong? thank you so much!Questions for a nail tech?
I can offer some advice, but won't guarantee anything.

First of all - the lifting problem. The #1 reason for lifting is due to improper prep of the nail prior to the application of either acrylic, or gels. You must be absolutely certain that the cuticles have been pushed back, and all of the debris and oils have been removed from the entire surface of the nail. The nail must be squeaky clean before even thinking about applying acrylic. I suggest using cuticle remover, and a good cuticle pusher to get all of the cuticle off the surface of the nail. Be sure to remove any cuticle in the entire area from the base of the nail to the sidewalls. Be gentle though because being too rough or going too far back can damage the nail matrix and that is not a good thing. When done with that, you can use a curette to remove anything you may have missed with the pusher. When done, scrub the surface of the nail with anail cleanser such as CND's Scrub Fresh, or just plain acetone or even 99% Isopropyl Alcohol will work fine. Then, you need to use a 240 grit file and remove the shine from the natural nail. Use vertical strokes, moving from the base of the nail out to the free edge. Avoid going back and forth, or going across the nail as this may leave unwanted scratches. Again, be gentle. Only remove the shine from the nail, and avoid overfiling to prevent damage to the nail. When this is done, scrub the surface again. Remove all nail dust and any other debris on the nail. It must be very clean. Then use a nail dehydrator, followed by primer. Apply the primer VERY sparingly. The nail should not be wet or dripping, only coated very lightly with the primer. Avoid contact with the skin at all times. Allow primer to dry. And after this step is completed, do not touch the nail at all with your fingers. If you do, you need to re-apply dehydrator, and primer because the oil on your fingers can contaminate the nail and cause lifting. Now, you are ready to apply the acrylic.

When applying the acrylic, make sure that you do not come in contact with any skin such as near the cuticle area at the base of the nail. This usually results in lifting. Leave a very small margin between the cuticle area, and the acrylic. Same with the sides.

When filing, make sure to file the acrylic until it is flush with the nail, but avoid filing the natural nail. In other words, keep the file on the acrylic at a slight angle, and file around the cuticle area until it is flush with the nail - but stay at the edge of the acrylic. That is what you want to file, not the nail itself because you can cause damage to your nails if you file your nails. Its a bit tricky, and it will take practice. But after a while, you'll get it right.

By doing what I just explained will most likely take care of both the problems you are having: Lifting, and the unevenness of the acrylic.

I am going to give you a video to watch, and a link or two that will give you additional information. I suggest reading the information carefully, and thoroughly. There is a lot of information on this site, but it is all necessary knowledge. My suggestion is to read it, and learn it well. The video is just to provide a visual example of how you should be doing each step. Maybe it will help?

I hope I explained myself well enough for you. I'm not the best writer, but I tried!

Does the nail tech normally take off your shoes and socks before a pedicure?

I went to a nail salon the other day and as I was sitting down at the massage chair, the nail tech turned on the water, rolled up my jeans and took of my shoes and socks. Is that normal? Or do most people take off their shoes and socks on their own? As my pedicure was finished, the nail tech rolled down my jeans, slipped on my flip flops for me. Do most people put on their own flip flops and roll down their pants or have the nail tech do it for them?Does the nail tech normally take off your shoes and socks before a pedicure?
I usually do it, but the first time i got a pedicure, the person took my shoes off for me, and later put them on for me!

it kinda freaked me out a little... i wasn't really sure what to do, since i'm perfectly capable of doing it myself...

but whatever, she was just trying to help.Does the nail tech normally take off your shoes and socks before a pedicure?
I always get mani / pedis. The pedicure is always first. I slip off my own shoes and roll up my own jeans. I get my pedicure, and then the nail tech walks me over to the manicure station, carrying my purse and shoes. Then I get my mani and they walk me to the drying table thingys, once again carrying my purse and shoes. When I'm done drying, I slide my own shoes on (or they do it for me... it depends on the tech), pay them (I always take my cash out before so I don't mess my nails up trying to get it), and leave.

    I hope this helps!
I take my shoes off before I sit in the chair and roll up my pants. They slip the cheapy flip-flops on though after they're done, before you go dry your nails. I usually wear flip-flops to the place though cuz it's easier to get on and off.
Normally you would do your own....I think that the tech was just giving some extra service and trying to earn a bigger tip (nothing wrong with that!).
they sometimes do that, but usually only for people wearing some sort of sandals.
she was just being nice by taking off your shoes for you and slipping on your sandals.
umm i think you do it. lol

Getting a nail tech license without proper schooling?

I've been hearing from reputable nail techs that you can purchase a nail license without having to go to a registered beauty academy but I find it hard to believe. I've been ';training'; for a month with a nail salon and I've done pedicures on customers which is completely illegal! They expect me to get my license in a few weeks which is unheard of to me because along with training there is also education and knowledge that comes with it and no one has been truly teaching me. I'm learning by watching and yet they're forcing me to work on clients and to get my license when I know I'm not ready. I've found a great school that will actually teach but I've heard before buying a license they would test your skills but what I would like to know is it actually possible to purchase a license without proof of background knowledge?Getting a nail tech license without proper schooling?
WTH? Believe me, no 'reputable' tech does nails without a license and formal training. That is not reputable. That's sleazy at best. Its people like that who give the nail industry a bad name. From a legal standpoint - no, you cannot buy a nail license. It is illegal to operate without one that was properly obtained.

This may be a sort of extreme example but think about this. Would you like to find out that your doctor or even your dentist never went to school but instead forked over some cash and bought their license to practice? Don't do it. The customers of nails salons deserve better than that. You won't be doing anyone a favor but yourself.Getting a nail tech license without proper schooling?
In most states, no. Most states require a verified amount of credit hours to be able to become a licensed cosmetologist or nail technician. That nail salon should not be in business if they are forcing you to do that...if I were you, I'd find somewhere else to learn at that practices legally...both you and the salon could face legal trouble if you were to be reported.
I dont think you should a get nail licence because it is illegal and you should not work at a nail salon that pressures you to do illegal stuff. And go get some more training from your registered beauty school.
    oooo

Im a new nail tech, and it seems like my nails always lift...?

i dont understand why my clients nails always lift?

my preperation on the nail is this:

    remove polish

    use scrub fresh

use file to remove any oils, dirt, ect...

    use scrub fresh

    put the tip on

    blend if needed

    apply more scrub fresh

    apply primer

    and then apply acrylic

is there something im doing wrong, because when they come in for fills, there will be lots of lifting, so i clip off the parts that are lifting, then it seems like they are impossible to blend...they always end up with a big nasty fill line and i feel so bad cuz i know sometimes they arent very happy. i have only been out of beauty school since june and i know i need alot of work...but what else can i do?

o and i dont use a drill, hand filing only...anyone w/advise? it would be greatly appreciated...thank you for ur timeIm a new nail tech, and it seems like my nails always lift...?
Just a little bit of trivia first...Did you know that ScrubFresh will remove nail polish? Try it sometime!

OK, since improper prep is the #1 cause of lifting, I would look there first. Are you absolutely certain that you are using the file to get into the sidewalls of the nail and also well into the cuticle area - without going too far and causing discomfort or injury, of course? It sounds to me like you were trained the 'CND' way of doing nails. That's not a bad thing. It's a very good company. Actually, I have the coveted CND Grand Master certification so yeah, I do think they are good in most ways. But, I too have had difficulty with their products, especially in the area of pocket lifting. I don't know what it is with their Retention+ monomer, but I get wicked pocket lifting no matter how hard I try not to. Now, Moxie, on the other hand, seems to work much better than Retention+ does. What do you use? OK back to what I was saying.

The steps you are using sound about right. Are you using cuticle remover, then pushing the cuticles back prior to removing the natural shine with your file? This is an area which MUST be totally clean of all any and all dead tissue or lifting will likely result around the cuticle area. This doesn;t have anything to do with lifting, but be sure to avoid getting the Scrubfresh on the nail tips. It may crack them if you wipe over them with Scrubfresh. Anyway, also be absolutely certain that once the nails have been properly, and completely prepped, apply scrubfresh, and be sure to get every little bit of oil, or any other contaminents such as debris from filing off of the nail plate. Your goal is to make the nail plate 100% squeaky clean - quite literally. It only takes a very little bit of leftover debris or natural oil on the nail for it to lift. Of course, onve this is done, do not touch the nails with your own fingers or you risk contaminating them with the oil from your own fingers. Also, don't let your client touch their nails either. This will put oil back onto the surface of the nail. That is a no no! One other thing is to be sure that the acrylic does not come in contact with any of the skin surroundin the nail plate. This includes around the cuticle area, and into the sidewalls. Always maintain about a 1/16'; or so margin of product free nail surface. Keep the acrylic away from the skin - always. Product that cures while in contact with skin is bound to lift sooner or later - usually sooner than later! Sorry I have been jumping around here. I'm trying to do a million things at one - typing included and I'm losing track of where I am, LOL! Well, good luck. If all else fails, and you are using CND products - then you can always call their hotline for technical assistance. Were you aware of that? I don't have the number handy, but you can get it off their website, http://www.cnd.com Of course you must be registered as a professional to get into that portion of the site. If you don't log on, you won't get past the consumer area of it, and that will nto be of any help to you.

    Best wishes!

PS: No matter how hard you try, you will NEVER be able to please every single client. I don't care how good a tech is. There are simply some people in the world who are never satisfied with anything and they will always find something wrong. Thankfully, not all clients are that way. Only a few, but they are enough to make life for us miserable at times. Try to not let them get the best of you. Try to keep your chin up at all times!

  • Nail Techs!!! I too am a nail tech and I have two questions for you:?

First question is, what can I use to protect my own acrylic nails while using acetone to remove my clients polish? I am finding that each day I am melting my own nails away and I have to constantly fix them. Also, what can I use to protect my skin on my thumb and forefinger (the two parts that we tend to file our own skin). I bought that little black wrap stuff but it tends to fall off during a fill. Thanks for all your help! Happy Thanksgiving!Nail Techs!!! I too am a nail tech and I have two questions for you:?
Yup, using a UV gel topcoat or finishing gloss can help with this problem. But, apply to both top and undersides of your nails. Once cured, this will protect them from acetone and other chemicals. Of course, you could always switch to gel nails. That would also solve the problem.

Also, I use HandsDown Ultra nail %26amp; cosmetic pads for polish removal. They have a plastic barrier which protects your nails from exposure to acetone. They work really well, and aren't all that expensive (about $4 for 60 pads).

As for protecting your skin while filing, try getting some Coban by 3M. Its a hospital grade stretch bandage which sticks to itself and works great to protect your skin. This product will not fall off easily. Here is a link for a product description. Its available in a latex, and a latex-free version in case you have any allergies to latex.

It's 10.55am right now, so if I ring up soon do you think i'll get an appointment for later this afternoon? Or do I have to book well in advance?

I have a terrible habit of biting my cuticles, but i've somehow restrained myself from doing it as bad as I usually do for about a week, so they aren't as horrible as they usually look.

It's not so much my actual cuticle, but the skin near it.

It's not bleeding [and it never did], it's just a bit of open skin.

    Oh and ONE more question!

When they do Gel Nails, do they just put the Gel over my natural nail, or are they putting a tip or something on, to make my nails longer?

I have been researching for weeks about the whole getting my naills done thing, but I cant seem to find out what I actually specifically want to know *o*

if it is not any where near your nail where the gel will be applied they will not do it but it sounds as if it is above your cuticle so u should be fine. they should be able to do it.

They can make your nails longer unless you want them the same length they will just do an overlay. Its up to you how you want it. As far as booking it all depends on how busy the nail salon is.Will my Nail Tech still do my Gel Nails if I have a Broken Cuticle? Please help me out here!?

    Which girl?!
if the tech cant do it i would get a new tech.

If a nail tech uses a liquid and powder and a uv light does it mean that I have uv gel nails or acrylics>?

After only one week, my nails look terrible. It looks like I need a fill in even though I was told that fill-ins are every 3 to 4 weeks. When I am there getting a pedicure I always hear people saying that the uv gel nails are the greatest. I have always had a good experience at this nail salon. The only reason I got the nails was that when I get a manicure it normally only last a couple of days. I spent 70 bucks for these nails and it pretty much lasted as much as a 6 dollar manicure. If a nail tech uses a liquid and powder and a uv light does it mean that I have uv gel nails or acrylics%26gt;?
i love getting my nails done. the only way that they are ';gel'; nails is if before they put your nails under the UV light, they will put a gel on top of your nails. They wipe the gel off as soon as you take your hands out from the light. I usually have to get mine done every 2 weeks, just depends on how fast your nails grow. Also, a little advice, if your nails aren't lasting, maybe you're not going to the best place. Does it smell really bad? Do they have to leave the doors open? If it smells horrible nail places, of course, have a smell, but if this is very very distinct and horrible, that means that they aren't using the best chemicals for your nails. That could be why they aren't lasting. If a nail tech uses a liquid and powder and a uv light does it mean that I have uv gel nails or acrylics%26gt;?
First off not every person's nails grow at the same rate. Secondly, the UV light is to help harden the acrylic and speeds up the drying process. Try a different nail tech who uses the same acrylic process. If it happens again then it just maybe your nails grow really fast. My wife complains right at about the two week mark that her cuticles need be cut and she needs a fill in.
    you have gel nails.

acrylics are much better in my opinion.

call the salon, most will fix the problem at no charge because one unhappy customer can lead to a lot of lost business. it could be that the product used was old or something of that sort.

but id definitely call your nail tech or go in and show her, my bet is shell make right. i would.

Does anyone know if i need to renew the cosmetology licensed (and how) or if i can some how do a ';partial'; renew? (for nails only) And how would I go about doing that? Some one please help!!!!!! Thank you!Hello, I have an expired cosmetology license (9/30/07). I am interested in getting a nail tech. license.?
This sight has info on renewals that have expired. When you renew your cosmetology license you can still do nails. I don't believe they will let you switch to a nail license, and I believe the renewal price is the same for both. http://www.ilga.gov/commission/jcar/admi鈥?/a>Hello, I have an expired cosmetology license (9/30/07). Male nail tech?

Im a 21year old male and i work as a nail tech do u think this makes me look gay. Ive got a girlfriend and paint her nail and have manacure's done on me weekly at the moment Ive got a french manacure ur opinions plzMale nail tech?
Not at all. I think that would be awesome to have a man that could do my nails so I dont have to :)Male nail tech?
it's not what you do, it's how you act...

As long as you don't act feminine, there would be nothing to worry about for you!
Keep it all real, yeah its pretty gay if thats what u CHOOSE to do. and MEN DONT GET FRENCH MANICURES. Just keep ur nails neat and clean, and MAYBE a coat of hardener if they break easily. as a man u do not need a manicure more than once every 2 weeks.

.....There are many males in my nail shop but they are Vietnamese immigrants and they OWN the shop and whenever they bring over a new family member he gets them a job.

but if it makes u happy and ur girl dont mind forget what everybody says.
I agree with OZ, I used to have guys do my acrilic nails. I have to say, I always wondered, but I am not one to judge. I say that you are who you are if if it pays the bills, then who cares.

What it would cost per year for liability insurance for nail tech. in s.c.?

nail tech wants protection in salon at least 10000000 dollars worthWhat it would cost per year for liability insurance for nail tech. in s.c.?
I'm not going to guess. I'm positive that no one will give you an umbrella to get you to $10,000,000. I think this is a typo.

A BOP policy will start at $500 or so, it could be higher depending on how the policy is written.

You should go see a local Independent Agent, they'll find you the right stuff. What it would cost per year for liability insurance for nail tech. in s.c.?
    $10 million? Why $10 million?

$1 million would be approximately $500, so I'm guessing $10 million would be $4,000.

    Help from a nail tech?

Hey. I was coloring a friends hair the other day and I used gloves, but some of the dye must have gotten under my nails when I was washing out her hair.

Do you know anyway to remove this without taking off my nails. I am worried that if I get a fill (witch I desperately need) the dye will be trapped under there.

Any help is very much welcomed and appreciated!

    ThanksHelp from a nail tech?
I am assuming that the dye is under your acrylics on top of your nail. It sounds like your nails were lifting a bit at the edges for dye to get under there. When you go get your fill, the nail tech should clip off those lifted off areas, maybe file the dye off of your natural nail if it's on there, and continue like normal.

  • Train as a nail tech?

i'm looking to become a nail technician but none of the colleges near me offer it. im thinkin of a home study course from essential nails. but im wondering if its possible to train thru just a salon, how long it takes and if there is a qualification at the end of it?Train as a nail tech?
Where abouts are you based. There is a place up north that offers short intensive courses which you can do one on one or in a class. To learn acrylics it is a one day course and costs 拢200. You can buy the kit from them as well for 拢60. They are really good and they stay with you untill your done. You get an IHBC diploma at the end of it which enables you to get insurance and a job in a salon if you wish. They are based in Yorkshire but she can travel.Train as a nail tech?
I would think you would get better answers in the Beauty section.
My sister just got a job training in the salon where she has her nails done. Personally I wouldn't bother with those home study courses. I've been having my nails done for years %26amp; the only time they've been crap nails has been when the person learned at home.

I'm A new Nail Tech, Why do some of my clients nails pop off :( ?!?

sometimes nail techs don't use enough glue... but it could just be the clients...for some reason my nails are really oily and don't take well to acrylic...have you tried gel sets?I'm A new Nail Tech, Why do some of my clients nails pop off :( ?!?
Make sure you etch the natural nail, then use a dehydrator and then the primer and allow these to dry competely before starting, if the nail doesnt look dried out, use a second coat of primer. Another reason can be the ball of acrylic is too wet . Hope this helps....I'm A new Nail Tech, Why do some of my clients nails pop off :( ?!?
I chew on my nails, so when i first started getting my nails done I would chew or just pick at the sides... and the next thing I knew I was waiting in line to get a new nail.
It could be that the nail isn't the right size for the person. That causes the nail to pop off sometimes. Also if the area under neath the nail was not cleaned good enough that can also cause the nail to pop off. When you dint clean underneath good enough, the oils can eat away the glue you used. If you dint use enough glue, this to can cause the nail to pop off.
You can be using too much or too little glue, also buff the nail and you can even leave a lil file dust as adhesive
it could be a number of things.....but more than likely its in the nail prep...when etching the natural nail are you removing all the dust from the nail bed? are you using a dehydrator???? and are you blending the tips with the natural nail??? and if you are, are you over filing??? these could all be the problem why the nails are popping off....goto my profile and come join my group of nail techs....in the reason you want to join just let me know that i had answered your question here....

I need a unique creative name for my e-mail for my nail clients....im a nail tech..any creative suggestions?

Nail tech gave me wart. Can I sue?

In February, I was getting my nails done at Walmart and noticed that the tech had a huge uncovered wart on his finger after he had already started. I was in a hurry that evening, and he was already in the middle of the service (had already been touching my hands), so I decided to stay. I immediately scrutinized my hands to make sure there were no cuts that would be susceptible to viral contamination. I noticed a small cut on my ring finger. Sure enough, 2 days later a wart started forming where the cut was. I have since gone to the dermatologist 6 times to get it removed and have spent approximately $300.

I feel like I should sue the nail tech for my medical bills and cost of the manicure. He probably has not bothered to get the wart removed considering he didn't as much as put a band aid over it when doing my nails. Would this case hold in court?Nail tech gave me wart. Can I sue?
Yuk, I can understand your anger..Yes you can sue but it would be hard to prove that it was his wart contaminated you as you can pick it up anywhere..I would report it to the health and safety authority first and if they verify your story then mabe you have a good chance..Nail tech gave me wart. Can I sue?
Causation will likely keep any attorney from suing on your behalf. A wart could have come from anywhere. I would be hard pressed to believe there is actual proof you got a wart from a nail salon. To sue a nail salon, you will need a condition more specialized to nail salons, usually nail fungus.

    Nail Tech College?

I was interested in going into nails. Does anyone know how long it takes to finish, and how much does it cost? thxNail Tech College?
It depends on what school you go to. My school charges $4,000. But if you go to a concept based school (like Aveda Concept schools) then it will cost you more. But most are around $4,000. As for how long the programs are, generally about 5-6 months depending on if you go part time or full time. Just do your research. You dont neccessarily have to pay alot and go to a ';prestigious'; school to get a good education. Walk in one day and ask to talk to students. Or go in for a cheap service and ask the student if they like going there, if the teacher is good, ask what the passing rate is, ask if they have job placement, ect. You can e-mail me with questions if you'ld like. I'd be happy to help!

Do ya tip hairdresser/nail tech. if they own the shop?

No. I tip them because they do exactly what I ask. Do ya tip hairdresser/nail tech. if they own the shop?
As far as proper etiquette goes, you don't tip the owner of a salon, a restaurant, etc...

';TIPS'; - stands for ';To Insure Prompt Service'; and it's offered to employees/staff by a customer to get special treatment. Not sure when it became something that was expected but I guess that's how times change.Do ya tip hairdresser/nail tech. if they own the shop?
A tip is a response to the quality of service you feel that you received. If you feel someone did a good job, regardless of who they are, you should tip them.
    no i do not

HELP: NAIL TECH with Severe THumb Pain?

im a nail technician and ive been doing alot of clients daily and ive noticed that the muscle under my thumb is very sore and the joint in the middle of my thumb just throbs whenever i bend and lock it in the position of holding a clients finger. is there anyway to prevent this from turning into carpal tunnel if it hasnt already?HELP: NAIL TECH with Severe THumb Pain?
With your thumb bent, press into it with your other thumb at the bottom inside joint and hold it there for 30 seconds. Then slowly open your thumb up all the way, release the pressure but hold your thumb like that for one minute longer. If you still have trouble, move up to the bottom of the next joint and do it again.HELP: NAIL TECH with Severe THumb Pain?
Put some heat on it to relax the muscle. I don't think it's carpel tunnel yet just watch it and if it gets worse go to the doctor.

    Nail Tech In Funeral Home?

So if you have any kind of info. I would very much appreciated..Thanks in advance!!Nail Tech In Funeral Home?
Hi there. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I honestly think you will have a very difficult time finding a job doing this. Most of our clients are older and either they didn't do their nails, or they simply paint them, which we are capable of doing. I cannot imagine any funeral home that would be willing to pay someone to paint nails. Acrylics on the deceased would be unneccessary and I have never had that requested. Sorry this may not be what you were looking for, but good luck!Nail Tech In Funeral Home?
    Hello,

Great post. The most important part of business is advertising. This makes or breaks a business. Some of the best ways to advertise I've found are:

    1. Offline promoting (business cards, flyers, newspaper and other print advertising).

    2. Online promoting (buying banner ads, forum posts, email auto replies).

The best method that's worked for me so far is handing out business cards. I don't do this in the usual way.... I buy them in bulk from a place online (they give the cards for free, I just paid shipping and handling...they also give a really nice free business card holder, it looks impressive). They're really high quality. I just put all of the info about my business on the cards, and I hand them out on cars at bus stations, malls, etc. It's worked out really, really well for me, and it's completely inexpensive =)

    Good Luck with your business!

Can the tech's at the nail salon take off your old acrylic nails and put new one's on?

just let me know. Can the tech's at the nail salon take off your old acrylic nails and put new one's on?
Please don't 'pry' the nails off using another nail tip - yes it is quicker, but you'll end up needing to wear false nails all the time because your natural nails will be too thin to do anything with! Buy a nail varnish remover with acetone in it (or 100% acetone - you should be able to get it at a chemists) and soak them off yourself, using a file in between soaks. Alternatively, pay to get them removed at a salon (cause they will do this) watch how it's done, and then you'll be able to do it yourself next time! Can the tech's at the nail salon take off your old acrylic nails and put new one's on?
    YES - definitely
Yes, they can. And I would suggest getting gel instead of acrylic. It looks better and in my opinion its a little easier on the nails. When you get them redone, you should only need an overlay, I would also suggest getting pink. When you refill with pink it hides the demarcation marks of your previous fill. Good luck, I prefer for them to take them off by applying a nail tip under the acrylic and prying the acrylic off...it is very painful but a lot quicker than soaking. If your nail tech is not familiar with that method, avoid it. and just use the soaking and drilling method. Be sure to tell them you want to preserve your nails.
yeah but it takes longer and they may charge more, you can do it at home but steeping the nails in a bowl with nail varnish remover
Yes, when I was trained some 15 years ago, we were taught to remove any acrylic over three months old and replace it. They will charge about a tenner to do this, but it can be done. These days, acrylic does not need to be replaced unless you want it done.
Yes they can, if the nails have been on for a while they'll just come right off, if they are recent it may take a little while to remove them.
yep! that's what they're there for. they put it on you, so they can definately take it off and put on new ones.
    YES
yah but dont do it yourself cuz it will hurt and rip your nail
They should be able to, but you could take them off yourself. Just go to Sally Beauty Supply and tell them you want 100% Pure Acetone. Also buy some cheap wooden cuticle pushers while you are there. Once you're home, put the acetone in a bowl and begin soaking your fingertips. Try to soak as long as you can before you scrape a little bit with the wooden cuticle sticks. If you do this long enough, they'll come off and you can go get more. This takes a long time, but if you (or anyone else) tries to pry them off, it will also remove layers of your natural nail (and really hurt).
    yes
    Yes they can.

Any suggestions on good citys?/Nail tech in California..?
San Diego, CA. I live here and always have my nails done. There are tons of nail shops, BUT obviously you speak perfect English so this will work to your advantage. Areas like Rancho San Diego, La mesa, La Jolla, Del Mar are good upper class areas to work. Most of your client base will be white older women who 1) usually tip well 2) you can charge more for the service. There are other areas in San Diego that are ';ghetto'; and low class/poor quality nail shops. Email me if you have any questions! Good luck :)

how old do you have to be to work obtain your nail tech license? I could apprentice under my aunt, how many hours will it take? i only wanna do manicures and acryllics i have a feet phobia so NO PEDICURES i need some info tho :DNail tech license?
Check the Secretary of State website for your state and you should find all of the necessary information detailed for you about obtaining a nail tech license. Best of luck to you!Nail tech license?

the acrylic brush brush its very expensive so please help me thanks. For nails tech. only can i clean my acrylic brush with pure acetone whithout causing damage to the brush?
when using pure acetone to clean excess acrylic product, or hardened acrylic from any brush.. you should keep acetone only on the bristles, not the metal or the handle...

and do not leave for long time,, i find that a few minutes, then check it remove any loose residue, then soak again, and remove any more residue...

the longer you leave the brush to soak the more damage it will do...

also, cleaning it a bit more after every use so it doesn't get clumpy again.. brushes cost too much to waste them...

I've been putting off working as a Nail Tech because I didn't want to lose my health insurance at my present

job. What's the cheapest most affordable health insurance for people in the beauty business or entreprenuers? If I leave my current job and do nails I will no longer be covered so I will have to buy my own. Thanks in advance for an info will be appreciated!I've been putting off working as a Nail Tech because I didn't want to lose my health insurance at my present
There are too many variable to help you here. You will want to visit a local independent agent. This person knows the plans that are available in your area and can help you find one that's best for your situation. They don't charge you anything for the service.

You may get offers for medical discount cards. Be very wary of these cards. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of “save up to 80%” be aware that very few doctors actually take these cards. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card. One state couldn’t find any doctors in that state that took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card. See this link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… for more information. Many other states are starting to ban these cards.

Before signing up with any discount plan get a list of doctors. If they won’t give you a list consider it to be a scam. Call the doctors on the list to make sure they’re still taking the card (many don’t even know that they’re listed as a provider) and that they’re accepting new patients.I've been putting off working as a Nail Tech because I didn't want to lose my health insurance at my present

im stuck in the same situation that you are in. im ready to leave my current job, but can't because of the health insurance coverage that i have. the insurance covers for infertility, and i know if i go somewhere else i won't luck up on that insurance again. you may have to check out some insurance providers for individuals....such as blue cross and blue shield, met life..just to name a cpl. good luck as a nail tech....dont let insurance stop you from becoming what you want to do. sometimes we have to make sacrifices in life sometimes, but it will be worth it in the long run.

I was a nail tech about 5 years back, and I am almost positive that you have to retake the boards if you move to a different state. I bet if you look into a beauty school website they can get you the info you need if you don't get it here!www.nailsplash.com, it says there you have to be recertified when moving from state to state. Is my Nail Tech VA license valid in NY?
Check with the NY State Board of Cosmetology. Most states will let you transfer your license to their state.

Is it proper ettiquette to tip the nail tech?

Yes, even if they don't do a great job you should still tip them. It's just like a barber or a waitress, they are providing you with a service, so you should tip! If they don't do such a great job, you are entitiled to decide how much you want to tip, but you should always leave something. Is it proper ettiquette to tip the nail tech?

Nail tech or medical assisting which makes more money?

Although the tips can be nice as a nail tech, you are not always guaranteed a tip from your customer. Chances are your hourly wage will be higher if you are a medical assistant, chances are you will be offered benefits and there is more job security in the medical field.Nail tech or medical assisting which makes more money?
As this is my profession, I make pretty decent money. I am not going to state my earnings. All I am going to say is that I live very comfortably. I have also been ';doing nails'; for 14 years.

My prices are well above the other salons and I have a very affluential clientele.

It also all depends on if you are good at the skill involved and are confident and are employed at a high end salon.

Nail techs reportedly can earn up to $100,000 and more... This is no joke. Work your tail off and you've got it made.

I don't know of anybody working as a medical assistant earning that amount.Nail tech or medical assisting which makes more money?

Around here it is no question, medical assisting! My friend is well was a nail tech, shes 20 and her mom kicked her out. In order to make money for an apartment she quit the nail tech job to work retail at Kohls department store. If you live in a bigger city though nail techs might make more. You could always ask one.

If i wanted to be a nail tech .. how much schooling and can you do it by apprenticeship?

Well, well ,well. It takes a special kind of person to dare to enter the realm of nail and nail decorating. If you think you have the drive and desire to make the commitment then you might just have the right stuff. But most of you out there in Answerland just talk the talk and don't have the jimmies to walk the walk. So if you think you can outlast and show the world that you laugh at fungus and nail bed diseases, and if we can find you might just be able to hire..........THE A-TEAM...If i wanted to be a nail tech .. how much schooling and can you do it by apprenticeship?
It only cost's about 2000 dollars to be a nail tech.If i wanted to be a nail tech .. how much schooling and can you do it by apprenticeship?
You need to go to a beauty school. Check with the schools in your area because the length of schooling varies.
It depends on where you live. Laws change from state to state, so the only people that can really tell you are nail techs in your state, the licensing board in your state or the schools. Check out different schools in your area also, some require you to get your full cosmetology license and others allow just nail tech certification.

DO ANYBODY KNOW OF A WEBSITE WHERE U CAN GET A LOAN FOR NAIL TECH OR CUTTING HAIR?

If you are new to the world of loans, then all the jargon and terminology can seem very confusing. There are so many different terms to understand, and unless you know some of them you will not find the best loan deal to suit your needs. If you want to know more, then here is a guide to some of the basic loan terms you might need to know.

The lower the APR, then the cheaper the loan interest will be. Credit scoring is a method that lenders use to determine your eligibility for a loan. They ask a series of questions about your earnings and financial situation. Each answer you give is scored, and the better your score then the more likely you are to be accepted for a loan.DO ANYBODY KNOW OF A WEBSITE WHERE U CAN GET A LOAN FOR NAIL TECH OR CUTTING HAIR?
